A Few Tips for Shipping A Car

When you move to a new city, you can either drive yourself in your car or have it shipped. If you choose to have it shipped, you can hire your moving company to do it or an auto shipping company. When choosing the auto shipper, expect to pay a few thousand dollars depending on where the car needs to go. Car shipping is great for long-distance moves, but to save money on any move, follow these tips.

Document the Car’s Condition

Wash the car and clean it out inside.  Remove any chargers, transponders, air fresheners or other items that are not fixtures. Inspect both the exterior and the interior and mark down any dents, scratches rust or tears. In addition to writing them down for the transport company to see, take photos and hold onto them on your phone or computer in case any problems arise.

Check for Leaks

You do not want your car to leak fluid on top of another any more than you would want another car to leak fluid on yours. Most shipping companies use bi-level trucks that carry several autos at once. Check to make sure that there are no leaks coming from your car. Bad leaks can cause your car to be prohibited from being transported, so be sure to fix any leaks way ahead of moving day.

Turn Off the Alarm

Disable the alarm system before the vehicle is loaded on the truck. If it sounds off during the journey, it can be a dangerous distraction to the truck driver.

Don’t Fill It Up with Gas

The car is being transported to the new destination and not driven. Too much gas can add more weight to the car and that can increase risks during its journey on the truck.

The above tips will help you prepare your car for shipping. With them, you can save money and enjoy getting your car to your new home conveniently.
